Les conseils à donner aux patients qui consultent pour chute de cheveux ou alopécie découlent naturellement des observations précédemment citées.

Il faut conseiller : l’arrêt du tabac et de l’alcool, éviter les expositions solaires excessives en protégeant sa chevelure, éviter tous les facteurs mécaniques (frictions, brossage énergique, la chaleur excessive d’un sèche–cheveu trop proche des cheveux, les tractions répétées), limiter les colorations et décolorations à une fois par mois au maximum en évitant l’association à une permanente ou à un défrisage.

Il faut aussi conseiller une alimentation équilibrée notamment en fer, en vitamines et en acides aminés soufrés.
